What is a Drug Court?

Rockville, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring & Wheaton, Maryland

A drug court is a special court that has been given the responsibility of handling cases involving drug-addicted offenders. The aim of the Montgomery County Drug Court is to eliminate substance abuse and its consequences – both criminal and personal – with a focus on therapeutic jurisprudence, the idea that positive therapeutic outcomes are important judicial goals.

If you are facing a drug-related charge in Montgomery County and have struggled with substance abuse issues, drug court may be a viable and attractive alternative to harsher and potentially less effective sentencing options.
